About KQP

KyQuan The Great

KyQuan lives in New York, New York, and it has been his home since September 22, 2011. Before that, he grew up and went to school in Boston. But that’s not to say he was born in Boston. KyQuan was born in Malaysia. Again, that’s not to say his family is Malaysian; they’re actually from Vietnam, and his Mom has roots in China. As for KyQuan, he was born in transit from Vietnam to the United States back in 1988. That in itself is quite a story, but we will save that for another time.

Fast forward twenty-three years after his grand entrance, KyQuan started his career in finance thanks to the good graces of a firm that took a leap of faith in his abilities. A year and a half later, one of the big four banks in the United States recruited KyQuan. He climbed the ranks and eventually made it into Private Wealth Management. After devoting several years to the bank, KyQuan felt like he needed a change: to see the world, to impact communities, to make a difference. That change would effectively take place on May 11, 2017.

Now let’s rewind twenty-one months from May 11th: August 8, 2015. KyQuan took a spur-of-the-moment trip to the Caribbean, his first vacation in years. It was only an extended weekend trip, but it was just enough for him to clear his mind and rejuvenate. On that trip, he caught something that would inevitably change my life: the travel bug. Upon KyQuan’s return to New York, he started looking at places he could visit. Within weeks, he started taking weekend trips abroad.

May 5, 2017. On the eve of one of his best friends’ bachelor party, KyQuan drafted his resignation letter. He sat on that letter for days waiting and contemplating, unsure of what ripples and effects such a paradigm shift will cause in his life. On May 11, 2017, at 2:46 PM, KyQuan took a deep breath, swallowed the red pill, and freed himself.

Since that fateful day, KyQuan has obtained his scuba diver certifications, skydiver certification, and sailing accreditation. He also became a mountaineer embarking on the Explorer's Grand Slam. And to impact the communities he came from, KyQuan started a scholarship fund benefiting first-generation students. His most recent endeavor is starting classes for his Private Pilot License; KyQuan hopes to become a pilot by 2024.
